Hello I just bought a copy of this program from Best Buy on sale. I actually bought it for a new laptop I plan on buying for Christmas. I was looking under support for the manual here on the Aronis site but the only thing I see is for the business server version I don't see any manuals listed for the home version. Could you please tell me were the home version of the manual is located I want to read up on making a image of the drivers applications and operating system of my new machine> I contacted the manufacture and they don't provide a copy any more with there new machines. Thanks

Dear Thomas,
Welcome to our Forum, it's nice to have you with us! Thank you for your question, I will be glad to address it.
The Documentation section for Home products is available here. See more information about the Documentation section in this KB article.
Please note, that it's important to have the latest build of Acronis True Image Home, it has some features added and major issues fixed. Since you have a boxed version it's highly possible that it contains the older build. I'd advise you to register your license on our website. This will allow you to download the latest build of Acronis True Image Home, and - if you'd like to avoid installing the product onto the new machine - the bootable media in ISO format, which can be burnt onto the CD or loaded to the USB drive (see Grub4Dos instructions).
It's up to you to decide how you would like to backup your new laptop: from Windows of from the bootable media. But in case you would like to have an image of the clean OS without any programs installed, I'd advise you to use the bootable media. The backup can be made by entering the Main Screen of the product and selecting Disk and Partition backup. There you can choose the source drive, the backup method and target backup location. Please also don't forget to validate the image upon its creation (Disk backup options -> Validation). This will ensure you that the image created is not corrupted, and can be safely restored.
Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you! Please also note that in case of emergency you can always contact our Support directly for immediate ongoing assistance.

Hello and thank you for your reply! Well I should have mentioned it but I have the 2010 boxed version can I till update it I have the long registration number I assume that's all that is required. After doing a little reading it appears that the CD in the box is bootable are you saying that once I download the latest build that I will have to create a bootable version of the updated version I will be downloading. And yes!! I want to create a clean image of the OS as soon as I get the machine that's why I bought your product before actually purchasing the new computer so I could read up on this and know exactly how to proceed. I have to honestly tell you that I find the a little confusing so could you please explain this procedure for creating a clean image of the OS on my new machine. Is that the part you described above disk and partition backup? and are you saying in order to complete this backup that I have to create a bootable disk? I plan on buying a new larger faster hard drive to replace the one that's going to come with my new machine so can I use this to make an exact copy of my OS and transfer everything to my new hard drive. I know I could use the cloning aspect of the program but I won't be purchasing the new hard drive right away. I read and found the part on cloning a disk drive which I found very helpful. But I didn't find anything specifically on how to create a clean image. I saw something that might be this but I don't want to take a chance and possibly have the wrong section. Once again thank you for the fantastic support, and I hope I have made this to confusing.

Most likely then, you will want to create a disk option backup (all partitions) of your system before you install TrueImage Home. This link discusses how that might be done.

Hell another question would you suggest I don't install the program on the drive that I will be retiring I'm assuming that your software can only be installed on one machine? So if I intend on putting in another hard drive how should I proceed. Kind of new to this that's why all the questions. Thanks

The only way you can have a clean copy is to take a backup of your system before any changes and this means a backup without TrueImage installed. If you are NOT intested in a pristinie copy, then go ahead and install before the backup but you would be second guessing yourself if the install has problems and you have no backup to get you back to your base.
Most (but not all) users install TrueImage onto their Windows system. It is a user choice. Much will depend upon what options of TrueImageHome you wish to use. The CD provides all the backup and restore options but no scheduling and no 'nonstop backup'. Do some research about its options before you install.
Yes, one license per machine.

The serial number is per PC so, I suppose you could have it on your old and new drive so long as they are only used by that one PC.
You need to make sure you understand the difference between a partition/disk image and a file backup, they are not quite the same thing and although the term is often used interchangeably it can cause confusion when used so.
Acronis True Image 2014 User Manual English Version
An image is a copy of either your whole disk drive or individual partitions that are compressed into in Acronis' case a tib container file.
These images are restored to a disk as either a complete disk or by partition, it is not possible to restore just a file using this method.
Images can be 'mounted' whilst running Windows which makes the image appear as a disk drive and files can be copied that way BUT NOT programs as in most cases they won't run.
A files and folders backup is just that you can backup all your documents, pictures, emails, movies etc and these can be restored individually. Files and folders can not be mounted as a disk drive.
Both types of backup can be 'Explored' using Windows Explorer.

When booted from the TI Rescue CD and if you select the disk option backup (as shown here), this will create a backup of all partitons. This backup (*.tib files) can then be used to create a duplicate disk and it will normally be bootable if the original disk is bootable.
When booted from the TI Rescue CD, and if you select the disk option restore (as shown below), using the disk option backup created above, you will be able to create a duplicate disk and it will normally be bootable if the source disk was bootable.
TrueImage Home will proportionally expand/contract all partitons based on the target disk size. If you want to control the partitions sizes during the restsore, then you do NOT want to check mark the disk but instead check mark the individual partitions and restore and resize each partition individually--in one pass.
Generally speaking, these are the recommended procedures
1.Remove the old drive and insert the new blank unformatted drive in its place.
2. If old source is being used as cloning, then place the old drive in another external enclosure.
3. Boot from the TI Rescue CD.
4. Perform either the clone or Restore a prior disk option backup from the backup storage location.
5. After completion. Shutdown and disconnect any other drives connected
6. Reboot with only the single new clone attached.
